The iRobot Roomba i3+ is a great robot vacuum with many smart features that make it easier to maintain. Its automatic bin emptying is one of the most convenient features we've encountered in the form of a robot, and it works well with hard floors as well as carpets. It's also simple to set up and operate, with the app guiding you step-by-step through the procedure. Its ability to restart where it left off in our tests is another impressive feature. It did this for 77 minute on one cleaning, before the battery was exhausted.
The i3+ EVO, unlike some of the other robot vacuums that we tested has a self emptying bin that automatically dumps debris into an external dirt compartment located on the base of its charging once it's full. This makes it easier to maintain the unit and also helps prevent the i3+ EVO from overfilling, however it still needs to be manually emptied after every cleaning session. The i3+ EVO dustbin can hold 2.4L which will last for four to five cleaning sessions.
Similar to the i7, this model uses state-of-the-art floor tracking sensors to create maps and navigate neat rows. However, the i3+ EVO only stores one map, while the i7 has the capacity to store multiple maps. The i7's map is used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones, but not for the i3+ EVO.
Although the i3+ EVO is more effective in removing debris on surfaces than the other robovacs we looked at however, it's not the most effective for cleaning edges and corners. It's also less gentle on furniture, despite being remarkably silent. It pushed chairs away from walls and caused some collisions with the sides of our bed, and also became stuck on cords and toys during our testing.
2. Black & Decker Pro Q5
If you're looking to expand your collection of robot vacuums, or just starting out, the Q5 Pro is a great option. It packs a lot of power, advanced navigation and easy automation into a slick design at a price that is affordable. It's the best pound-for-pound model currently available and is even better than some of Roborock's much pricier models in several ways.
This robot does a fantastic job of cleaning floors with no dust, and its avoidance technology assists it in avoiding furniture legs and other obstacles. It also does well on carpets and scores a high score for our tests of navigation. The only drawback is that it's louder than other models and doesn't perform as well in our satisfaction of the owner and predicted reliability assessments.
The Q5 Pro has a very large dust bin that is 770ml, which means you won't have to empty it as frequently as some other 2-in-1 robots. The Q5 Pro's 240-minute running time is also a lot when in comparison to other 2-in-1 robots we have tested. If the battery is empty it returns to its dock and automatically recharges, before starting cleaning where it stopped.
